ToolistHub Organize PDF page with a Choose a PDF file button and a drop area for one PDF

To rearrange pages in a PDF, open ToolistHub's free Organize PDF tool, add the PDF, move pages with the Move earlier and Move later arrows under each preview or type a position in Move page, then select Apply changes and download the new PDF. Organize PDF works in your browser, so your file is not uploaded.

How to rearrange pages in a PDF

  1. Open Organize PDF. Go to the Organize PDF page on your computer or in your phone's browser.
  2. Add your PDF. Select Choose a PDF file, or drop the PDF on the drop area. Every page appears as a numbered preview.
  3. Move pages. Use the Move earlier and Move later arrows under a page to move it one place at a time.
  4. Rotate or delete pages if you need to. Rotate left and Rotate right turn a page, Delete marks it for removal, and Restore brings it back.
  5. Select Apply changes, then download the new PDF. It is named after your file with -organized added, and your original file isn't changed.

Move a page straight to its place

Moving a page one place at a time is slow in a long PDF. In Move page, above the previews, type the page's number and the position it should go to, and it moves there in one step. Each page keeps the number it has in your original file, so you always know which page is which.

Long PDFs and the keyboard

The Tab key reaches one page at a time instead of every button under every page: the arrow keys go to the next or previous page, and Home and End to the first or last. A skip link takes you past the pages to Apply changes, so a long PDF doesn't mean hundreds of key presses.

What stays the same

Organize PDF changes only the page order, each page's rotation and which pages are in the file. Pages are not redrawn or compressed, so text stays selectable and images keep their quality. Links and bookmarks still go to the right pages after you move them, and form fields and the document's title and author are kept.

Bookmarks and links that went to a page you delete are removed with it. Because the PDF is saved again, a digital signature in it will no longer be valid.

Combine files first, then arrange them

To put pages from several PDFs in one order, join the files with Merge PDF first, then rearrange the merged file here. For a sideways scan, Rotate PDF turns pages without anything else on screen.

Limits to know

  • One PDF of up to 50 MB and 1,000 pages at a time.
  • Encrypted PDFs can't be organized, including password-protected PDFs and PDFs that open without a password but restrict editing or printing. Save an unprotected copy first.

Rearrange pages on a Mac with Preview

On a Mac, open the PDF in Preview, choose View > Thumbnails or View > Contact Sheet, and drag the pages to their new places, as Apple's guide to adding, deleting or moving PDF pages in Preview describes.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change the order of pages in a PDF?

Add the PDF to Organize PDF, move each page with Move earlier and Move later or with Move page, then select Apply changes and download the new PDF.

Can I rearrange PDF pages without Acrobat?

Yes. Organize PDF works in your web browser with nothing to install, and Preview can do it on a Mac.

Can I rearrange PDF pages on my phone?

Yes, in your phone's web browser: tap the arrows under a page to move it, then Apply changes and Download PDF. A very large PDF may need more memory than a phone has.

Will rearranging pages break links and bookmarks?

No. Links and bookmarks keep going to the right pages after you move them; only those that pointed to a deleted page are removed.

Conclusion

To rearrange pages in a PDF, move them in Organize PDF with the arrows or Move page, fix any sideways or unwanted pages on the way, and download the new copy. Your pages keep their quality, and links still point to the right places.
