How to Merge PDF Files Into One for Free
Combine contracts, scans and reports into a single PDF in the right order, and know what happens to bookmarks, forms and password-protected files.

To merge PDF files into one, open ToolistHub's free Merge PDF tool, add the PDFs, put them in order with Move up and Move down, then select Merge PDFs and download merged.pdf. You can combine 2 to 20 PDFs, up to 50 MB in total. Merge PDF works in your browser, so your files are not uploaded.
How to merge PDF files into one
- Open Merge PDF on your computer or in your phone's browser.
- Add the PDFs with Choose PDF files or by dropping them on the drop area. You can add more later.
- Put them in order. The PDF at the top of the list comes first. Use Move up and Move down, or remove a file you added by mistake.
- Select Merge PDFs. Every page of every file is copied, in the order of the list.
- Select Download merged.pdf to save the combined file.
What stays the same, and what doesn't
Each page is copied at its original size and orientation, without compressing images again or changing text, so the pages look exactly as before. Only the pages are copied: bookmarks and document properties such as the title are not carried over, and fillable form fields or links that jump to another page may stop working.
Password-protected PDFs
Every encrypted PDF is refused with a message, including those that need a password to open and those that open without one but restrict editing or printing. If you can open the file, save an unprotected copy first, for example with your PDF reader's print to PDF option when printing is allowed, then add that copy.
After merging
- Fix the page order or remove pages in Organize PDF, which also rotates pages.
- Make the file smaller for email with Compress PDF.
- Need the opposite? Split PDF cuts one PDF into several.
Merge PDFs on a Mac with Preview
On a Mac, open the PDFs in Preview, choose View > Thumbnails in each, and drag the thumbnails from one PDF's sidebar into the other's. Apple notes that Preview saves changes automatically, so duplicate the files first with File > Duplicate; see its guide to combining PDFs in Preview.
